Few artifacts recovered in an archaeological context are more personal than those related to clothing. Buckles, as lasting parts of personal adornment and attire, typically have distinctive information that can yield intriguing clues. Availability of goods, temporal indicators, personal preferences, and possibly even the outward expression of social status of the site’s occupants over time may be gleaned from this class of artifacts. By the mid 19th century a variety of metal buckles such as those recovered at the Warner site began to replace leather loops and buttons. For more complete information on buckles recovered at the site, see an article that appeared in the Saginaw Valley Archaeologist (2012-01), "A Selection of Clothing Buckles from the Warner site", in the articles section of the website.
